Letters to Sarah: Wings of Angels

This week I decided to illustrate my sister riding her bike with a dove symbolizing an angel. She has been a little discouraged learning Japanese and I made this to cheer her up. 

Since it takes 10 days for a letter to get to Kobe and visa versa, I hope she is doing better by now. 

Letter to Sarah: Cherry Blossom

Here is my fourth week sketch for Sarah's mission letter. Since she is going to Japan, I thought it appropriate to draw her a cherry blossom branch. I am loving every minute of drawing things for Sarah and look forward to every week :)

New Scanner

Santa brought me a high res. Epson scanner this year and I love it! It goes up past 1000 dpi. Now I can scan my art now and not worry about pixelated images. Here is my first scan of a sketch I did recently with no photoshop tweaking:

New Year's Resolution/Alphabet

I have realized I am not the best of art bloggers recently (thanks to Pinterest for letting me know that). I am inconsistent with blog posts and my New Year's resolution is to post something at least every 2 weeks. So something I have been working on is an alphabet for kiddos and basically every letter is formed by an animal that starts with those letters. Here are sketches of the first 3 letters:

Today's post is simple, but I am excited about it because I got the exact likeness of my subject in this portrait.

Rooster Painting

My mother-in-law commissioned me to do a painting of a rooster for her kitchen. It is purely for decoration and not illustrative. Here are some concepts I came up with and I am not sure which one I like best. Maybe the first one because it's so flowy and would be fun to paint. The second one  is quirky and the last one is cute. So we'll see. I am hoping to get this done pretty quickly and I think it will be a good "for fun" piece to do. 

Sunday Sketches

 I haven't posted anything lately because the company I am working with for the children's book still needs to finalize the contract. I have a lot of concept art for it, but until we figure out the copyrights I cannot post what I have been working on. So I am showing you sketches I did yesterday. The first 3 I did during church and the last one I did of my mother-in-law at a dinner party we had yesterday. I wonder if people think I am not paying attention at all when I sketch, but in reality it really helps me listen to the things going on around me, or focus on a speaker.
